Today, braces have come a long way from the metal-mouth look of a generation ago. They are aesthetically more appealing and far more efficient. Today there are so many options to make braces less obvious. Several people opt for clear or tooth-colored brackets. These are not evident from a distance and neither are they noticeable upfront. On the other hand, some youngsters nowadays prefer to add an element of fun and fashion. Colored braces are especially well-liked by teenagers.

An Early Start

It is believed that the best results can be observed in most children but in a very small percentage of adults. Therefore dentists recommend that if your child needs braces, he/she should get it as soon as a need is identified. In children, the bone around the teeth (alveolar process) as well as the jaw bones can easily be molded with the help of braces. On the other hand, adults require surgery to alter the jaw bones. We recommend that you bring your child for a consultation as soon as you notice a problem in the alignment of the teeth of your child.

What are Retainers?

Some patients may need to use a retainer for some time after removal of braces. Retainers help in maintaining the effect that was achieved with the help of braces. Once again, the decision of whether the patient requires fixed or removable retainers will be evaluated by the orthodontists.
